Devotions for the Diaspora - Wednesday of Misericordias Domini - 4 29 2020

Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Let us then continually persevere in our hope, and the earnest of our righteousness, which is Jesus Christ, who bore our sins in His own body on the tree, 1 Peter 2:24 who did no sin, neither was guile found in His mouth, 1 Peter 2:22 but endured all things for us, that we might live in Him. 1 John 4:9 Let us then be imitators of His patience; and if we suffer Acts 5:411 Peter 4:16 for His name's sake, let us glorify Him. For He has set us this example 1 Peter 2:21 in Himself, and we have believed that such is the case. - Polycarp to the Philippians

Acts 24 - “14 But this I confess to you, that according to the Way, which they call a sect, I worship the God of our fathers, believing everything laid down by the Law and written in the Prophets, 15 having a hope in God, which these men themselves accept, that there will be a resurrection of both the just and the unjust. 16 So I always take pains to have a clear conscience toward both God and man. “

“Asceticism is utterly useless if it turns us into freaks.” - Thomas Merton, No Man Is An Island

Devotions for the Diaspora - Wednesday of Quasimodo Geniti - Earth Day 2020

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or authorities - all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. - Colossians 1:15-17

“Our destruction of nature is not just bad stewardship, or stupid economics, or a betrayal of family responsibility; it is the most horrid blasphemy. It is flinging God’s gifts into His face, as if they were of no worth beyond that assigned to them by our destruction of them.” - Wendell Berry, Sex, Economy, Freedom & Community

“The earth whose fruit generously nourishes me belongs to You. Every creature in heaven, sky, land, and sea that is designated for my use and service is Yours.” - Johann Gerhard, Meditations on Divine Mercy
